A man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a woman was left fighting for her life following a hit and run in west London.

Police and paramedics were scrambled to Healum Avenue, Southall, on Thursday.

They found an Asian woman in her 20s with life threatening injuries on the roadside shortly after midnight.

Police believe they know her identity and are trying to trace her next of kin.

The vehicle involved in the collision left the scene.

A 31-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder on Friday and remains in custody

Detective Superintendent Rebecca Reeves said: "Though an arrest has been made, we still need to hear from anyone who might have seen events leading up to and at the time of the collision. "The woman was dressed in light coloured bottoms, light coloured top and wearing sandals. If you saw her around the area please contact us, especially if you have dash or doorbell camera footage - it could prove vital for us."

Any witnesses or anyone who can assist the investigation are asked to call 101 quoting CAD 82/09MAY. To remain anonymous contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
