Victoria Beckham has turned her attention from Mayfair’s Dover Street (home of her swanky flagship store) and set it on the high street — today, Posh Spice’s debut collection with Mango is available to shop.

She might not have worn one to her Oswald’s 50th bash last weekend, but you can be sure the pieces — which range from her signature offering of slick tailoring, slip dresses and knitwear, as well as shoes and “stand-out bags” — will be trotted about town this summer.

Beckham launched her own luxury fashion brand in 2008, and since then her show to become one of the most anticipated on the Paris Fashion Week schedule. She has been generous in lending her aesthetic — new campaign capsule shots reveal a crisp white, palazzo leg suit, a bubblegum, spaghetti strap gown and a ruched, cream dress will be front runners for popular buys — to this collection, which starts at £60.

Beckham’s partnership with the Spanish fast fashion retailer comes nearly a decade after her stint living in Madrid, between 2003 and 2007, when her husband David played for Real Madrid. In a statement, she explains it was Jane Birkin’s character Penelope in the 1969 French film La Piscine that inspired her new designs, not her WAG era on the continent.

The announcement comes as Mango celebrates its 40th anniversary, in which time it has ballooned into a leading fast fashion behemoth — last year the company boasted €3.1 billion in turnover and a net profit of over €172 million. The Victoria Beckham x Mango capsule comes after a series of other collaborations, but is the most high profile by some margin — others have seen Mango work alongside LA lifestyle brand SIMONMILLER, French influencer Camille Charrière and Scandi stylist Pernille Teisbaek.

In tapping a luxury house, Mango follows a path well trodden by H&M, who have set the trend for tempting top fashion designers to guest design collections since working with Karl Lagerfeld in 2004. More recently, Uniqlo have been a successful purveyor of this tactic, and ongoing collections with JW Anderson and Clare Waight-Keller remain fashion editor favourites. Can Beckham score for them, too?
