The best new restaurants opening in London this week
Tostadas! Really good wine! Royally good fare! This week, you’re in for a big treat when it comes to new restaurant openings and we have all the info for you right here. You’re welcome.
Cloth
Tucked away behind St Bartholomew the Great church in a historic building once home to poet John Betjeman, Cloth restaurant and wine bar sees vino aficionados Joe Haynes and Ben Butterworth team up with former Lasdun, Levan and Brawn chef Tom Hurst to offer hearty, broadly Anglo-French fare and wines by ‘honest’ makers. Hurst’s comforting food will celebrate the best British produce, with highlights including Somerset hogget with grilled cos lettuce, smoked tongue and anchovies, and brown crab and Berkswell tagliarini.
Now open. 44 Cloth Fair, EC1 (clothrestaurants.com)
The Orangery
Seeking to impress out-of-towners? Meander to Kensington Palace grounds for a regal-inspired lunch — specifically the Palace Pie starring tender lamb and beef served with a side of Somerset cheddar mash.
Open 1 May. Kensington Palace Gardens, W8 (hrp.org.uk)
All’Onda
Tired of risotto being cast aside, demoted to the lone vegetarian option on a pub menu? Say no more! This eatery is dedicated to celebrating the Italian staple, offering seasonal takes, with flavours such as bottarga with white asparagus, and cuttlefish with nduja, parsley.
Open 2 May. 67 Charlotte Street, W1 (allonda.co.uk)
Corrochios
Dalston’s go-to Mexican is quadrupling in size just in time for Cinco de Mayo. Roll up for the Oaxacan tostadas de camarón — a crisp tortilla topped with prawn ceviche, avocado and charred habanero, designed to be washed down with countless spicy, clamato micheladas.
Open 5 May. 76 Stoke Newington Road, N16 (corrochios.com)
