Shop, dine in style and raise a glass on a Prague weekend
Once you’ve ticked off the main attractions, it’s time to explore everything else that Prague has to offer, from quirky museums and galleries to beer baths and street food markets.
The good news is that it's never been easier to soak up all of this rich culture: Prague is less than two hours away from London via frequent flights with British Airways. What's more, with British Airways Holidays, you can book your flights and hotel all in one place. Here are some ideas to get you started on a trip to the Czech capital…
Discover the city’s art and museum scene
When you think of Prague, you probably think of its beautiful architecture, rich history and charming town squares. But this is also a city with exceptional museums and galleries, exploring themes that you may not expect.
BA City Breaks: Explore Prague
One of the newest on the scene is Kunsthalle Praha, a contemporary art space with immersive digital visuals and installations in a cool, stark setting. It’s also home to a great café with views out over Prague Castle and Petrin Hill.
Benefits of booking with British Airways Holidays
- Book now, pay later with deposits from £60 per person*, and pay off the balance in as many instalments as you like. Balance is due four weeks before travel for short-haul trips
- A dedicated 24-hour, seven-days-a-week helpline for any issues while you’re away. And if your plans change or the unexpected happens, British Airways Holidays will prioritise getting you home as soon as possible
- ATOL protection for all holidays – meaning your money is safe and you can rest assured you won’t be stranded abroad
For something a little more classic, head to the Franz Kafka Museum in Lesser Town, set in the shadows of Prague Cathedral. The author was both born and buried in Prague, and the museum is an immersion into his life and works.
Art nouveau fans, meanwhile, will want to check out the excellent Mucha Museum, dedicated to the works of the Czech artist Alphonse Mucha.
Time for a beer and a bath – or both
Pilsner is often associated with Prague, and with good reason – the beer that comes out of this corner of the world is top notch. But you don’t have to stick to the big names. Head to the microbrewery Pivovarsky dum Benedict, and you can order a tasting tray of the eight beers they brew right on site, as you watch the liquids bubbling in the giant vats.
You don’t have to limit your beer experience to drinking, either. Go to one of Prague’s beer spas and you can take a bath in an oak tub filled with a blend of hops, brewer’s yeast and beer.
It sounds wacky, but the herbal, vitamin rich blend is truly relaxing and rejuvenating. Plus, you get to sip on a cold pint of beer as you soak, before unwinding on a wheat straw bed by a fire.
Hit the shops then grab a bite
If you want to pick up the ultimate souvenir, skip the tourist shops around the old squares and head to the Deelive Design Store. Right in the middle of the city, this lofty space is home to over 2,000 products made by Czech designers, so you can pick up pieces like sculptural gold necklaces or leather crossbody bags.
There’s a more eclectic, quirky vibe at Vnitroblock, a vast multifunctional space with a showroom for young designers and artists. It’s part gallery and part café, but there are also crafty spaces where you can make your own piece or even take a dance class. There are plenty of events throughout the year too, such as artist workshops or quiz nights.

Visit Prague in the festive season and you’ll see why its Christmas markets are regarded as some of best in the world. But it’s not the only time of year you can eat your way around a market. Manifesto Market is set in the Andel neighbourhood and is filled with ultra-hip food vendors, selling everything from ramen and southern barbeque to poke bowls and pilsner.
It’s worth checking out the various farmers markets around the city too, where you can pick up freshly baked bread and seasonal treats.
The city is also a bit of a hotspot for fine dining – after all, Prague was the first post-communist city to be awarded a Michelin star.
Nowadays, there are two standout Michelin-starred restaurants – Field is run by two friends and has a strong focus on seasonality, and La Degustation Boheme Bourgeoise is wine focused with a easy-going style.
