Bruno Fernandes is set to start for Manchester United in Sunday’s match with Arsenal.
The United captain missed the humbling defeat at Crystal Palace last time out due to a knock and leads a long list of players battling to be fit for Sunday’s visit of the Premier League leaders to Old Trafford.
Erik ten Hag confirmed on Friday that both Fernandes and Scott McTominay look likely to make their comebacks from short lay-offs when the Gunners come to town.
“Bruno was on the [training] pitch and Scott McTominay was on the pitch, so there are some players returning,” he told reporters.
United have also announced Lisandro Martinez and Marcus Rashford‘s return to training.
But only Rashford is likely to be ready to make the squad to face Arsenal with Martinez requiring patience in his recovery from a calf problem.
Luke Shaw has suffered a “setback” and Harry Maguire was recently ruled out with a leg muscle complaint while Victor Lindelof, Raphael Varane and Willy Kambwala are all yet to feature in team workouts.
It comes as United are desperate for reinforcements with only one senior outfield player, Sofyan Amrabat, on the bench in the loss to Palace. However, neither the Moroccan nor Amad Diallo appear to be trusted by the manager to start games at this point despite their teammates’ lack of form.
Their issues have opened up a gaping hole in defence being filled by Jonny Evans and Casemiro, who may have to struggle on against Arsenal unless Amrabat is drafted in.
Mason Mount is a fresh addition to the Red Devils’ injury list after a “very unlucky” injury which may spell an early end to his debut campaign in Manchester.
