Beloved for the spa-like aromas they release, there’s no brand more synonymous with bath bombs than British-born cosmetics retailer Lush.

Indeed, bath bombs were invented by Lush co-founder Mo Constantine in a garden shed back in 1989. Driven by a desire to make bath time even more of a luxurious experience, Constantine compacted a mixture of nourishing wet and dry ingredients which, when submerged in water, released an effervescent effect as they dissolved.

From their creation until today, Lush has produced an array of strongly scented bath bombs which often follow a certain theme in both looks and ingredient composition. For instance, Mermaid Tale Bubble Bar is filled to the brim with zesty citrus scents and moulded into a purple and blue mermaid’s tale.

The wondrously colourful effects of dissolving bath bombs are often referred to as ‘bath art’, a trend which is certainly in keeping with Constantine’s wish to make daily bathing a more opulent and exciting experience.

So popular is the sheer effect of expertly designed, fizzing bath bombs that the tag #BathArt has garnered a whopping 79.5 million view on TikTok. That’s right; it’s not just the aromatherapy benefits and nourishing ingredients packed into bath bombs that keep enthusiasts coming back for more.

A huge selection of bath bombs are now available, some made by Lush and some by others, from child-friendly options to add a splash of colour to bath times, to bombs scented with aromatherapy essential oils to aid blissful relaxation. Some bath bombs have even been created with holistic healing in mind and contain a scented mixture of Epsom salts, known to have muscle-healing benefits.

We’ve curated a selection of the best bath bombs on the market to imbue your baths with excellent effervescents. The only question is: are you ready to dive in?
